Sand Point Generating (SPG) is a seasoned utility operator and energy services contractor with expertise in remote location logistics and the use of renewable energies in critical operating environments.
The company developed its remote expertise as the primary power provider in Sand Point, Alaska, supplying vital power to more than 1,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the Aleutian Island community.
Since acquiring the utility in 2000, SPG has consistently maintained reliability and adapted to the changing demands of the growing community and advancing technology. In 2011, in response to rising fuel costs and the company’s commitment to sustainable energy, SPG integrated a 1-MW wind farm into its system. Diesel consumption is estimated to drop 140,000 gallons per year as a result.
